Biography
Ava Bigalke is a versatile multi-instrumentalist based in the Winston-Salem, NC . Originally from McKinney, Texas, she is an accomplished performer, educator and private teacher. Ava channels her passion for music into nurturing the next generation of musicians. Her dedication to fostering creativity and a love for music is evident in her teaching approach, where she inspires her students to explore various instruments and musical genres. Alongside her role as an educator, Ava thrives as a performer, showcasing her talent and proficiency across multiple instruments. With a heart dedicated to sharing the joy of music, Ava Bigalke continues to make a meaningful impact in both the educational and musical landscapes of her community. Ava Bigalke is a dedicated oboist and multi-instrumentalist currently pursuing her masters degree at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts where she is the Graduate Oboe Teaching Assistant, studying under Dr. Rachel Messing, and received her bachelors degree Oboe Performance at the University of North Texas studying under Dr. Jung Choi. Previously, she studied at the University of Kansas under the guidance of Dr. Margaret Marco before transferring.
Ava Bigalke is a consummate performer across a diverse array of musical genres and ensembles. She seamlessly transitions from bands to orchestras, jazz bands to operas, chamber groups to pits, showcasing her mastery of instruments including Oboe, English Horn, Clarinet, Saxophone(s), Flute, Bassoon, Piano, and Guitar. Ava has been apart of numerous pit productions, most recently including Groundhog Day, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Little Mermaid, Big Fish, etc. Her exceptional talent has garnered recognition, including the prestigious Patrick Gillmore Award, celebrating her outstanding contributions to the musical world. She plays with local symphonies such as the Durham Symphony Orchestra where she is a frequent sub. Ava has performed internationally through programs such as the International Lyric Academy and the Lone Star Ambassadors of Music, collaborating with musicians and faculty across the U.S. and Europe.
Ava Bigalke stands as a dynamic educator within multiple school districts, shaping the musical journeys of countless students. With a rich background in music education, Ava's influence extends beyond the classroom, as she shares her expertise at various music schools and through masterclasses and clinics. Her commitment to musical development doesn't halt during summers, as she passionately coaches at engaging and enriching music camps, such as Bocal Majority. Through her approach to teaching and mentoring, Ava Bigalke continues to ignite a love for music and foster talent in students across North Texas and North Carolina regions. Balancing her passion for teaching and performing, Ava aims to carve out a career that allows her to thrive in both realms, with a particular aspiration to excel in musical pits through woodwind doubling.
